summary

This publication aims to establish relationships between artistic practices and their socio-cultural context, underlining the need for innovative approaches in the face of current developments. It contributes to a better understanding of the artistic landscape in Algeria and its contemporary issues. This booklet, entitled «Le marché des arts plastiques dans la ville d’Oran: État des lieux,» is part of the research conducted at Crasc since 2008 on epigraphy and popular culture in Algeria. It examines the dynamics between scholarly and non-scholarly culture, highlighting the evolution of artistic practices. The research is based on an empirical survey involving observations in art galleries and interviews with key stakeholders in the sector, such as artists and exhibition organizers. The aim is to understand the issues at stake in the visual arts market, particularly the sensitivity of sales, which are often negotiated privately, and the factors that determine the value of works. The deliverable is structured around five themes. The first, by HIRRECHE BAGHDAD Mohamed, sheds light on the functioning of the artistic field in Oran through key concepts. HENNI Fatima explores the presence of artistic works in public spaces, analyzing their creation and impact on the market. AIT ALLOUA Kahina focuses on the formation of artistic taste in educational institutions, while ABDELOUAHAD Hasni examines the importance of the Oran Regional School of Fine Arts in the development of the market. Finally, HAMIDA Nassima discusses craft art and its boundaries with the plastic arts, highlighting cultural influences. This publication aims to establish relationships between artistic practices and their socio-cultural context, underlining the need for innovative approaches in light of current developments.
