summary

This collective book is the result of three years of research on the issue of preserving and transmitting the language-culture of origin within mobile populations. These studies, conducted within the framework of the Research Division in the Anthropology of Education and Training Systems, focused on Algerian migrant families observed in France and during stays in Algeria. It presents the results obtained by the members of the research project initiated by CRASC, entitled 'Transmission of languages and LCO (Language and Culture of Origin) within the families of Algerian migrants in France, between cultural challenges and socio-professional success', as well as those of colleagues specialising in these themes. Our aim was to bring together various exploratory studies in order to contribute to improving knowledge in this area and to gain a better understanding of the dynamics of family projects in terms of language practices, parental decisions and maintaining contact with the country of origin. The various studies mainly highlight the data and indicators of intra-familial linguistic and cultural transmission, or even practices that can shed a little more light on the processes involved in this transmission. The approaches are mainly sociolinguistic and deal from different angles with the issues of employment, maintenance and intergenerational transmission of the language-culture of origin.
