summary

Considered one of the greatest political and military leaders, Emir Abdelkader, Ibn Mohiédine, Ibn Mustafa, Ibn Mohamed (1808-1883) retains a tangible influence in the modern and contemporary history of Algeria. His great reputation made him one of the most eminent personalities of the 19th century, which is why he continues to provoke controversy and be the subject of numerous writings. The successes achieved through his political and military actions were widely echoed in many countries. He was highly regarded for his courage and commitment in his long and arduous resistance to the French occupation, as well as for his tenacity in defending his land, homeland and identity, despite the many difficulties and constraints. His patriotic stance caused him a great deal of suffering, resulting in his detention at the Château d'Amboise in France and deportation to Damascus in Syria. Despite this constraining and painful situation, he made the most of it by devoting himself to writing and good works.
